FAQs
-
Use the ORCKA Directory Site to search for specific paddling skills courses or to hire an instructor near you. Instructors and organizations across Ontario offer ORCKA programs throughout the paddling season.
-
Once you’ve found the skills course you’re interested in taking, reach out directly to the head instructor of the course and ask about required equipment. In many cases, the instructor will offer rental options. If you have your own equipment you’d like to use, they may ask some questions to ensure it’s suitable for the course.
Note: To participate in any ORCKA program, participants are required to wear a government approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD) when on or around the water.
-
In some cases, it is possible to attend a higher level skill course or an Instructor course without first attending an initial basic-level course. If you believe your experience qualifies you to join at a higher level course, reach out to the instructor of the course you’re interested in and ask.
Please note this decision is up to the discretion of the instructor offering the course.
There is a mix of experience and skill level at every ORCKA course. Even the most experienced paddlers can benefit from revisiting the basics and participating in a course with other paddlers; we all learn from each other.
