Basic Canoeing Level 1 and 2
This course is for adults 18+ . You must be able to comfortably swim in deep water to take this course. This 8-hour course is designed for novice and intermediate level paddlers who are looking to improve their paddling skills, knowledge and safety.

Sunday July 13, 2025-- Take the 8:15 Ward’s Island Ferry and meet at 8:30 am at the TICC shoreline. The TICC is located just WEST of the ALGONQUIN ISLAND BRIDGE, off Cibola Avenue.

Safety
- Canoe Over Canoe Rescue
- Correct fitting of PFD’s
Theory
· Equipment Knowledge
· Safe Canoeing Procedures
· Government Regulations
We will learn and practice the following techniques on water:
· Launching and Removing a Canoe
· Entering and Exiting a Canoe
· Paddling Positions
· Balancing and trimming
· Changing positions
· Pivots
· Sideward displacement
· Forward and reverse straight line
· Inside and outside turns
· Circles and landings
· Stopping
· Landing
· Lifts and carries
· Canoe over canoe rescue (both rescuer and victim)
If we have a little time at the end of the course we will go on a short paddle tour of the Toronto Islands Lagoons. What a great way to take the perfect selfie and be a tourist in your own city.
