Our Camp Canoe Instructor Course provides essential training in paddling techniques, safety, and teaching principles. Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of strokes, on-land instruction, theory, safety measures, and more. In addition to mastering basic canoe levels 1-4, participants will learn to instruct new canoeists, equipping them to guide and inspire others on their paddling journey. Key Highlights of the Course:
πΆORCKA Basic Canoeing Program: Participants will experience an accelerated curriculum encompassing Basic Canoe Skills Levels 1 through 4, tailored specifically for camps and camp canoe instructors.
π Candidate Skills Assessment and Evaluation: Participants undergo an ongoing assessment of their skills throughout the course.
π Theory: Explore theoretical aspects of teaching, including lesson planning, teaching environment assessment, and understanding student needs and abilities.
π£ββοΈ Practice Teaching: Engage in hands-on practice teaching sessions, developing and delivering lessons based on Basic Canoeing Level 1 through Level 3 course programs.
π Learning Theory and Information: Delve into teaching fundamentals, techniques, presentation skills, and interpersonal communication. Emphasis is placed on effective lesson planning, equipment usage, and administrative elements.
Prerequisites:
- 16 years old
- Be employed by or attending an OCA member youth camp.
- Current ORCKA member (membership included course fee)
- ORCKA Basic Canoeing Level 4, equivalent certification or comparable skills and experience.
- It is strongly recommended that all Camp Canoeing Instructors have, in addition to their canoeing qualifications, some qualifications in Swimming, First Aid and CPR.
