ORCKA Basic Canoeing Instructor Course
The course will run at Shade’s Mills Conservation Area in Cambridge, ON from Monday April 28th to Friday May 2nd.
Successful candidates of the Basic Canoeing Instructor course will receive a provincially recognized certification allowing the instruction and administration of ORCKA Basic Canoeing Levels 1-4 and the Safe Canoeing Program, as well as assisting on Basic Canoeing Instructor and Camp Canoeing Instructor courses.
Included in the fee is one-year ORCKA membership and the entrance fee to Shade’s Mill Conservation area for the course.
Prerequisites:
- At least 16 years old
- Basic Canoeing Levels 1-4 or comparable skills with permission from Matt Borges
Accommodations:
Course participants are required to arrange their own accommodations and provide their own food. There is no on-site camping at Shade’s Mills however there is camping available nearby at Valens Lake (
https://conservationhamilton.ca/conservation-areas/valens-lake/). There are also nearby hotels available in Cambridge for those who do not wish to camp.
Equipment:
Participants are responsible for their own canoe, paddle, PFD and safety kit. If you would like to sign-up but don’t have this equipment, please contact Matt Borges and we may be able to supply this equipment to some participants.
