Introduction to Safe Canoe Tripping Program
Camping skills “tune-up"
This one day workshop is designed for canoe trippers, , kayakers, hikers, car campers, even RV'ers
Location: Huntsville
Course fee includes: canoe, safety kit, paddle, pfd, paddle, course materials
Participant is responsible for personal equipment and accommodations
The workshop will include:
Safety: pre trip, on trip, post trip
- Some canoeing skills may include portaging, self-rescue and canoe over canoe rescue
- Trip Planning / canoeing resources, Government Regulations / Float Plan
- Food Planning pre-trip - Including Dehydrating, on trip
- Cooking / Baking
- Drinking water
- Campsite Selection
- Environmental Practices and concern
- Weather interpretation including adverse weather conditions
- Knots around the campsite
- Tarping
- Fire lighting - including tricks for wet wood
- Animal Avoidance - including safe food storage
- Campsite group gear and tools including axe / saws
- Repair - canoe, paddle, tent
- Canoeing First Aid
- Clothing and personal effects
