Introduction to Canoe Tripping
This 4-hour introduction provides key considerations for planning a canoe trip. This course will introduce you to the basic knowledge and skills required for safe multi-day canoe tripping. It is advisable to travel with experienced canoe trippers for your first outings.
Topics covered: Safety, (canoe over canoe rescues, communications, personal and camp hygiene); Theory, (PFD knowledge, food and menu planning, canoeing resources, government regulations, float plans); and Skills, (canoe loading and trimming, trip packing, navigation, campsites, fires and stoves, portaging, safe use of tools, canoeing first aid, weather interpretation, environmental practices and concerns, canoeing resources, clothing and personal effects). Obviously, this course just touches on these topics; there is much more to learn about them!
