Apply early. The cut off date for cancelling courses due to insufficient number of candidates is 14 days before the course start date. You must have your approved application to the Host Organization, before this deadline

Applicants for Canoe Tripping Instructor 2 courses now have two distinct paths leading to successful admission, both of which are based on a points system. Path A represents the more traditional route to the CT Instructor course. The required 30-point total for admission is reached through lower level ORCKA skill course pre-requisites, and wilderness trip leadership. Path B is new. It was developed to reflect the greater diversity of skills, certifications, and experience that some CT Instructor course applicants possess. Less advanced ORCKA skill level courses combine with trip leadership experience for a 10-point mandatory portion of the 30-point total needed for course admission. The remaining 20 points may be drawn from various categories representing non-ORCKA certifications, training, wilderness travel, and teaching/coaching experience.

The River Running Instructor course is for those paddlers wanting to paddle loaded whitewater tripping canoes (loaded tandem and solo) down rivers on daylong or longer excursions.

The Moving Water Instructor course exists for those more inclined to paddle unloaded canoes (tandem and solo "playboats").

Hello ORCKA Kayakers,

Have you considered the benefits of taking the ORCKA Kayak Tripping 2 certification or ORCKA Kayak Tripping Instructor 2 course?

  • The purpose of the Kayak Tripping 2 is to provide a Provincial certification of competence in the planning and leadership of wilderness kayak trips.
